Clinical Trials Registration System

In September 2004, in order to ensure the transparency of clinical trials results, 12 of the main peer-reviewed journals belonging to the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), refused to publish clinical trials unless they were listed in an acceptable clinical trials registry before the first patient is enrolled.
Their decision was based on the concept that the results of clinical trials are public property and must be available to the public because they are generated through voluntary participation by patients or subjects.
In line with the global standard, the UMIN Clinical Trial Registry(UMIN-CTR)has been in operation from July 2005.

In March 2005, we demand that trial protocols and results of non-clinical trials be registered as well as clinical trial results from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association(JPMA).
