Critical Opinion on Cochrane Review of HPV Vaccines

2018-08-13

In May 2018, Cochrane published the findings of a systematic review of 26 randomised controlled trials to determine the efficacy and harms of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines.

However, since the Cochrane HPV vaccine review has fallen far short of an ideal systematic review and contains numerous problems that cannot be ignored, Medwatcher Japan released “Critical Opinion on Cochrane Review of HPV Vaccines”on our Japanese website on June 7th, 2018.
(Please click below 'Related Documents And URL' and see English translation of the original Japanese document.)

Moreover, it was identified that there were questions over the way in which the Cochrane HPV vaccine review was announced.

Thus we have submitted letters with the above document to some relevant parties (listed below) in charge of Cochrane regarding the Cochran HPV vaccine review on August 13th, 2018.

Parties contacted:
Mr.Mark Wilson - Chief Executive Officer, Cochrane

Ms. Jo Anthony - Head of Knowledge Translation department, Central Executive Team

Mr. Fergus Macbeth - Funding Arbiter

Ms. Angela Webster - Funding Arbiter

Ms. Gail Quinn - Managing Editor; Gynaecological, Neuro-oncology and Orphan Cancer Group

Ms. Clare Jess - Feedback Editor, Managing Editor; Gynaecological, Neuro-oncology and Orphan Cancer Group

Mr. Marc Arbyn - First Author of the review

In particular to the Funding Arbiter,
we raised questions regarding COI, in light of the Cochrane conflict of interest guidelines: ‘Authorship and Contributorship.
