cholesterol reducers,antihyperlipemics

Cholesterol-lowering drugs are prescribed for hyperlipidemia to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Statins occupy most of the world's marketing share.
In particular, they are prescribed for hyperlipemia in older women in Japan.

We pointed out that the reference standards of lipid management stated in the “Japan Atherosclerosis Guidelines for Prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases” are inappropriately low.
The guidelines have a great impact on how prescriptions are issued by physicians.

We submitted an open letter on the guidelines to academic societies in 2004.
